Sustainable Water Management in Urban Space

INTERREG III B NWE Project

4th Conference, Lille/ France, March 2007

The 4th annual Urban Water conference took place in Lille on 29 March 2007 focussing on the following theme:

Water development: a driver for urban attractiveness and economical strength

Water used to be seen as a major development driver thanks to its transport potential before gradually being neglected and polluted. Today, people in towns and cities are beginning to see water in a different way, giving rise to a series of new questions: How can water management help create economic development and/or contribute to improving the living environment in certain neighbourhoods and/or urban centres? How can this be successfully built into development and urban regeneration projects? How can projects be reconciled with different or even conflicting content and objectives?

Various projects located in France, the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain were illustrated addressing these questions and solutions were presented.

In combination with the 4th conference the Urban Water group met for the 6th working group meeting. Focus was laid on the possibilities and the impact of water as a tool for urban regeneration.
